Member Spotlight Cedar & Stone Bed and Breakfast
This week’s Member Spotlight is on Cedar & Stone Bed and Breakfast, owned by Luther and Vicki Harbert! Luther has lived on Harbert Ranch since he was three years old, and now he and his bride of 46 years enjoy entertaining and bringing new people to see the beauty that they have admired all these years. “[Luther’s] knowledge and love for this land shines through when giving a tour of the place.”
The Harberts wanted to provide a real farm-to-table experience for their guests. They not only offer a beautiful cabin for their patrons to sleep in, but also a tour of the ranch. Upon arrival guests are welcomed with homemade cookies and some of the biggest smiles around! Breakfast includes homemade cinnamon rolls, Blue & Gold sausage, buttermilk biscuits, creamy country gravy, eggs, homemade jams and jellies, and locally sourced honey. The cabin features large windows that offer a gorgeous view of the ranch and the sound of Blue River rushing in its banks can be heard in the early morning hours. The structure was built using wood that came from one place or another on the ranch and is decorated in the most unique, fun way.
Vicki says that Luther thinks it’s so neat that people come as guests but leave as friends. “We’ve had several repeat customers in the two years we’ve been open,” Harbert wrote, “We enjoy not only sharing our ranch, but our county as well.” On occasion the couple will give their guests a tour of the points of interest of Johnston County and always send a welcome text that tells them some of the things to see and do, places to eat, etc.
The B&B owners try to help and be a part of their community as much as possible. In addition to being members of the JCCC, they participate in various activities for Reaching Out, the spring livestock premium sale, and are active in the Tishomingo Alumni Association (Class of 1972). Luther retired from teaching agriculture at THS in 2013 and Vicki, from counseling at the high school in 2015. Their children are also THS alumnus; JJ, class of 1994 and Jeff, class of 1999. They are also active in the church they were married in, the United Church of Tishomingo.
Vicki wrote that there are no plans for expansion. “This is a fun, retirement venture and adding more cabins would make it a job!
