Member Spotlight Tri-Agri Farm Center in Coleman
This week’s Member Spotlight is on Tri-Agri Farm Center in Coleman!
Dan Hamilton purchased the facility in 1981 as the Coleman Peanut Coop and has since turned operations in new and unexpected directions. In ’81, Tri-Agri provided cattle feed and handled peanuts for area farmers. Fertilizer and weed spray services were added a few years later, still provided today, and with the loss of peanut production in this area, transitioned into pecan cleaning and marketing in 1999. This Coleman facility now cleans and markets approximately 20 percent of Oklahoma’s pecan crops!
In 2014, Tri-Agri Farm Center expanded into the food industry and began providing pecan oil and specialty roasted pecans to food retailers. They are currently working to expand and promote a variety of pecan products to improve overall consumption of pecans.
The business continues to expand as Tri-Agri offers specialized cleaning services for the native nuts, and just last year added more equipment to accommodate the needs of the fast-growing market in Texas. The company has an average of 8-10 employees but adds to that during the harvesting season; there are three generations of family currently working within the business.
Tri-Agri Farm Center is located at 108 Maple Street in Coleman and can be reached by calling 580-937-4555. They offer a range of farm and ranch supplies, feed and agriculture consulting, feed, fertilizer, weed control and pecan cleaning and marketing services. There are currently efforts being made to feature Coleman pecans on a major airline in the U.S. as part of the ongoing efforts to get pecan products in good places. Big things are coming from Johnston County!
