Member Spotlight WarPigs Gunworks & Outdoor Solutions

This week’s Member Spotlight is on WarPigs Gunworks & Outdoor Solutions! The business opened on December 15, 2017 and is owned and operated by Gary Dodd and Alyson Orr-Dodd. The Mr. and Mrs. are well known in the community as sheriff’s deputies for the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. Alyson has been in law enforcement for 15 years, while her husband is on his 18th year; Gary also serves as a Special Deputy U.S. Marshal. Along with their careers and small business, the pair are also raising children and cattle – I don’t know how they do it all!

WarPigs offers a variety of ammo and firearms including rifles, pistols, and shotguns; firearms accessories like parts optics and part kits to build your own AR style rifle or pistol; fishing equipment such as poles, reels, lures, weights, minnows and frozen bait; an assortment of archery products like bows, crossbows, arrows, etc.; plus items like high-protein deer feed that is available year-round and other outdoor enthusiast supplies. Inventory has expanded in the last year to meet the needs of customers – if you don’t find exactly what you’re looking for, the owners can accommodate and order most any firearm or gear you need.

The shop is a veteran and law enforcement owned and operated business, which means the Dodds are extremely proud and patriotic Americans looking to support anything that will help their fellow veterans or first responders. Gary said, “Everyone has the right to defend themselves and their family, to hunt, and enjoy many of the different shooting sports out there. One of the coolest things we enjoy doing with WarPigs, which also ties into our profession as law enforcement, is getting to help people!”

WarPigs works with area school’s shooting sports programs to provide needed equipment and has also partnered with a fellow chamber member, Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative (OHAI), on a benefit trap shoot at Murray State College that offers programs to enhance the quality of life for senior citizens in the area.

Needless to say, sometimes store hours can vary, though the owners try to be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m until 5:00 p.m. Customers are welcome to call 580-257-2225 to double check if WarPigs is open, and when the open sign is out, go on in at 307 W. Main Street in Tishomingo!

I sincerely hope that each of the readers of this column had a very Merry Christmas! I am on vacation this week and will return to the office on Wednesday, January 2nd. There will be volunteers in the office throughout the week from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. to answer any questions you may have. As soon as I return I will be stuffing envelopes with member renewal information, citizen of the year forms, election ballots, and 2018 in review flyers – all to mail out to the membership by the end of the week. I’m excited for the new year!

I’ve quoted this before, but it’s a good one – ““Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.” ― Benjamin Franklin
