Chamber hosts weekly industry spotlight
Many businesses are now re-opening across Johnston County and our first two weekly industries spotlight events have been great successes! We’re asking that if only for that one day per week, Johnston County residents think exclusively Johnston County. During Cruisin’ & Carry Out on Thursday, April 23rd, restaurants across Johnston County saw a wave of customers during a time when curbside pickup was the only way to dine out. With this event, one restaurant in particular, Tishomingo’s beloved Gonzalez Mexican Restaurant, saw a 15% increase in sales compared to the same day the week prior. Several restaurants made this date their official reopen day after being closed for weeks, like Latte Da Coffee House & Bistro. Later in the evening, dozens of Johnston County residents turned out to “drag Main Street” and celebrated being out of the house while social distancing, by honking at friends passing by, playing their favorite music, and simply enjoying a drive. Anna Webb won $40 in Chamber Bucks for dining locally and posting a photo to Facebook, tagging the business and the Johnston County Chamber.
Retail Friday Frenzy, held on Friday, May 1st, was a big day for Johnston County merchandisers. With over 30 choices listed for shopping Johnston County on a beautiful Oklahoma day, many had a great day of sales and were met with familiar, smiling faces. Tishomingo resident and Johnston County Health Department Wellness Coordinator, Laura Wood, won $40 in Chamber Bucks for shopping locally, posting to social media and tagging the businesses she shopped with along with the Johnston County Chamber.
This week, the JCCC is hosting Service Shout Out Saturday, a day to shine a light on the 90+ service-based businesses in Johnston County! Many of Johnston County’s service businesses have continued operation throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. They have pushed through to continue serving our neighbors and families and they deserve a shout out! This Saturday, we’re encouraging Johnston County residents to shout out their favorite service business and be entered to win Chamber Bucks by:
Choosing as many of the listed service businesses as they would like to shout out. Find their official Facebook page or Google listing and leave them a review. Each review gets them entered to win Chamber Bucks when they screenshot the review and post to the Johnston County Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. (2 reviews = 2 entries) We are asking that they use the hashtag #ServiceShoutOutSaturday!
If the person has already left a review on their favorite service business’s page, they won’t be able to do another, so they should create a post on the Johnston County Chamber of Commerce Facebook page, tag the business, and talk about the great service they have received, how the business has affected them (employs family, internship for students, etc.), or about the ways the business contributes to the community through giving and/or volunteerism.
In the coming weeks, the JCCC plans to highlight other industries including education, tourism-related businesses, and healthcare. Please watch the Johnston County Chamber of Commerce Facebook page HERE for more information!
